Beastiality in U.S.

This article was published on another site. The site takes issues with any problems that seem to deviate from the norm. After being published for a year, the site wanted the article edited into non-existence. The entire article can now be found here:

The article has been revised since nearly 4500 people viewed the original. The article was written to correct misinformation. There are some misguided adults who actually think that bestiality is purely a sex act. Bestiality and rape are acts of abuse and assault which at times leads to death. According to pet-abuse.com there were 13 cases of bestiality reported in 2009. This is pretty sad since the United State’s reputation settles on Christian values. Some of the cases even occurred in the self proclaimed Bible belt. There should be no cases:

  • Arkansas – 1
  • Florida – 1
  • Georgia – 1
  • Indiana – 1
  • Iowa – 1
  • Kansas – 1
  • New York – 1
  • Oregon – 1
  • Pennsylvania – 1
  • South Carolina – 1
  • Virginia – 2
  • West Virginia – 1

Two of the 13 cases reported in 2009 involved repeat offenders. The timeswv.com reported a case of a 26-year-old man who allegedly broke into a Farmington home over the summer and performed an act of bestiality with the resident’s dog. Mannington resident Christopher Adam Bagwell was formally charged with nighttime burglary and felony animal cruelty. He pleaded guilty to the animal-cruelty charge before Judge David R. Janes, and is awaiting sentencing. This is a dangerous individual who could potentially harm the pet owners.

It was the second time in approximately 2 years the same man was arrested for abusing the same horse. Foxnews.com stated the man was catch on video tape. Rodell Vereen, 50, was first charged with trespassing, but police added a buggery charge after watching the surveillance tape.

According to reports Vereen’s brother, the Rev. James Vereen, stated the man had mental problems for several years, but seemed to get better after the court-ordered treatment last year. He’s been sentenced to 3 years in jail and 2 years probation and he’s registered as a sex offender.

The love of animals is not essentially sexual in nature. In psychology and sociology the word zoophilia is sometimes used without sexual implications. A person fond of animals in broad sense or pets in particular is accepted in our social order. Nevertheless, the word zoophilia is most often used to mean a sexual inclination towards animals which is acted upon. The behavior is not socially accepted, unlike liking animals without any sexual or romantic intent. People who identify as zoophiles may mistakenly feel their love for animals is romantic rather than purely sexual.

Update: According to March 2010 Orlando Sentinel, Horvath was sentenced to three years’ probation in 2009 and forbidden to own any animals after he pleaded no contest to an animal-cruelty charge. He ordered to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation and complete any therapy associated with the evaluation. Horvath’s been in jail since February 2010 for violating his probation. A dog was found in his house. He’s been sentenced to five years in prison.

“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Gandhi #quote

July 29, 2009 legal authorities declared a Orange County Florida man was arrested for having sex with his female dog. The Sheriff’s Office stated that 21-year-old Laszlo Arsenio Horvath was charged with animal abuse. Sheriff’s spokesman said the dog’s injuries were so bad that it had to be euthanized, and human semen was found inside the dog. Authorities began investigating Horvath last month after receiving a tip about possible animal abuse. At this writing Horvath is jail without bail set.

According to Channel 13 News Orlando, Sheriff found a female dog powerless to stand up. The dog’s legs were duct taped closed with a cloth pressed against her lower half according topolice reports. A veterinarian thought it best to euthanize the 8-year-old whippet-mixed.

According to WSBTV.com in Georgia, 53 year old Edwin Robles was accused July 23, 2009 of having sex with a dog named Chain.

June 2009 a 21 year old Washington State man was banned from having pet for two years according to an Associated Press story. It seems the man was found guilty of having sex with his two dogs. He got 30 days in jail and a deviancy evaluation. His malamutes were luckier than then the Orange County whippet. They have new owners. According to police Whitson is a member of a group known as the Furries. They identify with an animal and dress the part in makeup, ears and tail. Normally sex with animals is not part of the Furries’ social events. Police said two other Furries witnessed Whitson having animal sex and reported him to police.

Updated: The prime federal law concerning animal care and conditions in the United States is the Animal Welfare Act of 1966, which was last amended in 2007. It is the only Federal law in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers. It does not specially address bestiality. additional laws, policies, and guidelines may include more species coverage or specifications for animal care and use, but all refer to the Animal Welfare Act as the minimum acceptable standard.

In 1999, the U.S. government banned the portrayal of animal cruelty, however the law was overturned by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals which ruled that the category “depiction of animal cruelty” contained in the law was not an exception to First Amendment protections. In an 8–1 decision handed down in April 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s ruling, but on the grounds that the law was unconstitutionally broad.

In the United States, state laws have included bestiality, referred to acts of sodomy, buggery, crime against nature, and deviate sexual intercourse. These laws banned any penile penetration into orifices other than the vagina of one’s wife, which was previously punishable at common law by death. Because the offense is defined in terms of penetration into a bodily orifice by the human or animal penis, it does not include all forms of human-animal sexuality.

Bestiality laws fluctuate broadly from state to state. Pennsylvania includes it as an offense of “voluntary deviate sexual intercourse.” Texas considers it an offense under the “public lewdness” category and only if it is committed in a public place or if the individual “is reckless about whether another is present who will be offended or alarmed by his act.”

Bestiality – the term for sexual acts between humans and animals according to Wikipedia.org. Sex with animals is outlawed in America, it is not explicitly condoned other countries. In most countries, animal sex acts are illegal under animal abuse laws or laws dealing with crimes against nature. Animal sex acts still seem pretty common in the United States. According to a December 1999 article produced by the River Front Times.com, thousands of British watched TV as a Carl Junction, Missouri man had sex with his horse. According to the article, Mark Matthews led the horse Pixel, which he called his ‘wife’, into a trailer and made passionate love to her. The TV program was part of a British documentary, Hidden Love: Animal Passions which explored a Missouri’s zoophile community. Missouri is one state alone with Texas that does not block human beings from having sex with animals.

Updated: A concern greater than before since the article was first published is the raise of animal snuff films on the Internet. As adults we must be increasingly aware of what all children/teens/adolescents are viewing on the computer. Snuff films aka crush films portray illustrations of animal cruelty, and/or pornographic acts with animals, most often involving the crushing death of an animal. The animals vary and include bugs, mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, monkeys, birds, cats, and dogs.

Animal cruelty is one of the three indicators of the Macdonald triad, gauge of violent antisocial behavior in children and adolescents. According to the research used to develop this model, cruelty to animals is a frequent behavior in children and adolescents who grow up to become serial killers, rapist and other violent criminals. In two different research studies quoted by the Humane Society of the United States at least a third of families suffering from domestic violence indicated that at least one child had hurt or killed a pet

A June 2010 New York Times article discussed the animal cruelty syndrome. 2009 in Baltimore a female police officer tried to save a dog set on fire as onlookers just stood by and did nothing. Neuroscientists are beginning to get a idea on the physical underpinnings of empathy. A research team at the University of Chicago has performed MRI scans on 16-to-18-year-old boys with aggressive-conduct disorder and on another group of similarly aged boys who exhibited no unusual signs of aggression.

Bible-Christian

Exodus 22:19 (New International Version) 19 “Anyone who has sexual relations with an animal must be put to death.

From Leviticus 18 (The Message Version) 23 “Don’t have sex with an animal and violate yourself by it. “A woman must not have sex with an animal. That is perverse.

24-28 “Don’t pollute yourself in any of these ways. This is how the nations became polluted, the ones that I am going to drive out of the land before you. Even the land itself became polluted and I punished it for its iniquities—the land vomited up its inhabitants. You must keep my decrees and laws— natives and foreigners both. You must not do any of these abhorrent things. The people who lived in this land before you arrived did all these things and polluted the land. And if you pollute it, the land will vomit you up just as it vomited up the nations that preceded you.

29-30 “Those who do any of these abhorrent things will be cut off from their people. Keep to what I tell you; don’t engage in any of the abhorrent acts that were practiced before you came. Don’t pollute yourselves with them. I am God, your God.”

Zionist – Seven Laws of Noah

2. Do not murder
3. Do not steal
4. Do not commit adultery, homosexuality, bestiality or the other forbidden relationships.
5. Do not eat flesh taken from an animal while it was still alive.
6. Do not blaspheme God’s name.
7. Set up courts of justice to enforce these laws and keep everyone in line.

Buddhism – Śīla refers to overall principles of ethical behavior. Lay people generally undertake to live by the five precepts, which are common to all Buddhist schools. The five precepts are training rules in order to live a better life in which one is happy, without worries, and can meditate well:

  1. To refrain from taking life (non-violence towards sentient life forms)
  2. To refrain from taking that which is not given (not committing theft)
  3. To refrain from sensual (including sexual) misconduct
  4. To refrain from lying (speaking truth always)
  5. To refrain from intoxicants which lead to loss of mindfulness (specifically, drugs and alcohol)

It appears bestiality has been practiced for centuries or the Bible and Hebrew text would not have to condemn the practice. The court records available in the United States, dating as far back as the 14th century and continuing to today, almost always show males, rather than females, as the human parties. Typically the animals have been mares, pigs, and sheep, and infrequently other domestic farm animals, such as goats, rabbits, and chickens.

The first data on frequency of bestiality were collected by Kinsey, but some later writers dispute the stats, because the study lacked a random sample, and the prison population was included, causing sampling bias. The males’ partners were generally farm animals, while the females’ partners were mostly pet dogs and cats. Hunt’s data from 1974 show similar animal categories but a decrease over 20 years to 4.9 percent for males and 1.9 percent for females, attributed to a declining rural environment in the United States. This may be due to greater occasions and less self-consciousness to have sex with other human beings since the 1960s and the “sexual revolution.” Kinsey found vaginal or anal copulation the most common form of contact for males, followed by masturbating the male or female animal. Contacts also included fellation by the animal of the male, and masturbation by friction against the animal’s body.

Diseases Can Be Transmitted

Zoonoses are diseases of animals, such as rabies or psittacosis, that can be transmitted to humans by close contact and bites. Zoonoses can be transmitted through casual interaction, but others are much more readily transferred by activities that expose humans to the semen, vaginal fluids, urine, saliva, feces and blood of animals According to CDC emergence of new zoonotic pathogens seems to be accelerating for several reasons: global human and livestock animal populations have continued to grow, bringing increasingly larger numbers of people and animals into close contact; transportation has advanced, making it possible to circumnavigate the globe in less than the incubation period of most infectious agents; ecologic and environmental changes brought about by human activity are massive.
